2023 Youth Baseball & Softball Season

Registration for youth baseball and softball season is now OPEN!  As we work behind the scenes, please follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on all things TAPRC related.

Below you will see a summary of our different opportunities to play ball. Our main league is our recreation division that plays in the Tri-Comm League during the spring/summer. We also offer a Select baseball travel team experience. The Middle School softball opportunity will be available again and run by our high school program. More information on all of this -- coming soon!

Volunteers Needed!

Our league runs thanks to volunteer coaches who work closely with TK Athletics to learn the game. If you are interested in helping coach please see contact our directors for more information.

TAPRC runs only with the help of volunteers! More than 80 volunteers make our programs possible serving as coaches, assistant coaches, team managers and field maintenance. TAPRC is financially responsible for maintaining the Crane Road Baseball Field Complex and a few of our school fields. Maintaining fields is expensive and labor intensive. We rely on volunteer labor and donated or discounted material whenever possible. If you are able to help in one of these ways please email: [email protected].

Rec T-Ball, Baseball & Softball

TAPRC rec teams are an opportunity for all skill levels to get active, learn the game, and have fun! Our focus is to help players build self-confidence and develop not only sound fundamentals but good teamwork and leadership skills. Teams includes ages 5-14.

T-BALL (Ages 5-6)

T-ball introduces our youngest players to the basics of the game in a fun setting. Our goal, pending numbers, is to separate boys and girls. Play is run like an intramural league (all in-house teams) on Saturday mornings at Crane Ball Field Complex. Teams will have a short practice then take the skills they learned and put them into action with a game afterwards. The 5-week game season starts in May. *Prior to the first game, coaches may choose to hold 1 or 2 practices.

Registration Fee is $60. Scholarships are available for students that qualify for free or reduced lunch.

BASEBALL - 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U

Baseball players 7-14 participate in the Tri-Comm Recreation League. This league includes teams from Middleville, Wayland, Dorr, Martin and Hopkins. Baseball divisions include Coach Pitch (8U)*, Minors (10U), Majors (12U) and Seniors (14U). Divisions are determined by age on April 30th of the current year.

The season runs May-June. Teams practice 1-2 times per week starting early April. Practice days and times vary. Coach Pitch (8U)*, Minors (10U) and Majors (12U) play games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seniors (14U) games will vary and may include Friday and Saturday games.

*Boys Coach Pitch (8U) has the potential to run as an in-house program rather than joining the Tri-Comm League, depending on the number of registered players at this level. In the 2023 season, six teams were rostered, engaging in a round robin schedule where they played against each other. Each team played a 12-game season.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to field availability and player numbers, these dates are subject to change.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:
Thornapple Kellogg Select Baseball is our community travel team experience. This division is offered to give players a more competitive travel baseball experience. Coaches focus on strong fundamental skill development. Playing time is not guaranteed and playing time will be based on performance, attitude and attendance. Players should expect to commit to 3-5 days per week to games and practices. Select teams will participate in off-season training.

Teams are selected based on tryouts. Numbers and skill level all play a role in what divisions we carry each year. The teams will play the BATL League (Grand Rapids) and at least 3 tournaments. Parents can expect to travel within a one hour radius of Middleville for away games. Game days/times vary each week and could include weekend play.
