NEW: Canoe race on the Thornapple River!
Saturday, August 20, 2022
Race starts at 11:30 a.m. (be there 30 minutes early)
TAPRC is hosting a canoe race during the Village of Middleville’s Heritage Days Celebration. The boat race is an intentional move to get people outdoors and spearhead a good cause - LOCAL PARKS! In partnership with Indian Valley Campground and Canoe Livery, up to 40 canoes will launch in shifts from the main boat ramp in downtown Middleville and will make the more than 2 hour trek to the campground, which is located on 108th Street. Teams of 2 people will race for the prize winning paddle and bragging rights to champs of the local waterways. There will be additional prizes for fastest team, oldest team and youngest team. The race will be timed and recorded on a wristband given to each team captain. Registration is $60 per team.
All race proceeds will go to building a new fund to help support the much researched and discussed ball field complex and community park currently known as Sheridan Park. The past year TAPRC has worked with the Village of Middleville and consultant Williams and Works to land on a draft plan of a park which includes 4 ballfields, pickle ball and basketball courts, playgrounds and multi-use trail system. The 20 acre piece of land is behind the cemetery by the Department of Public Works. THANK YOU BRADFORD WHITE FOR MAKING A LEAD GIFT TO HELP US KICK-OFF THIS ENDEAVOR!
